PERSONAL CREDIT CARDS

Updated: May 7, 2023

The best personal credit cards can vary depending on your specific needs and travel habits.

Chase Freedom Unlimited

Annual Fee: $0

The Chase Freedom Unlimited Credit Card is a cash-back rewards card that offers unlimited 1.5% cash back on all purchases. Additionally, the card provides a sign-up bonus of $200 cash back after spending $500 within the first three months of account opening. This is one of the most popular credit cards used in the United States.

One of the many benefits of the Chase Unlimited Credit Card is its simplicity in earning and redeeming your rewards. You can earn up to 3% on dining and drugstores and 5% on your travel purchases through the Chase card. The cash back rewards never expire and there is no minimum for redeeming cash back.

The greatest advantage with Chase Ultimate Rewards is the ability to combine your points with other Chase Credit Cards.

Chase Sapphire Reserve

Annual Fee: $550

The Chase Sapphire Reserve Card is a premium travel rewards credit card that offers a range of benefits and perks for those who love traveling more than four times a year. The card provides 3X po

ints per dollar on travel purchases and restaurants and 1X point per dollar on all other purchases. It also offers a sign-up bonus of 60,000 points (Up to $900 bonus) after spending $4,000 within the first three months of account opening.

The Chase Sapphire Reserve Card offers flexible redemption options for points. You can use your points to book your trips through the Chase Ultimate Rewards portal at a value of 1.5 cents per point or transfer your points to a range of airline and hotel loyalty programs (recommended). Additionally, the card offers many travel-related benefits, such as a $300 annual travel credit (automatically reimburses on qualified purchases), Priority Pass lounge access, TSA PreCheck or Global Entry application fee credit, and travel insurance coverage.

I would recommend applying for Global Entry versus TSA PreCheck. Why? Global Entry and TSA PreCheck are both valid for 5 years and require appointments. The primary reason to apply for Global Entry besides skipping the general Customs line when you come back to the States, is because it also includes TSA PreCheck. You are essentially killing two birds with one stone.

Global Entry has an international agreement with the following countries which gives you the same benefit. It’s like Disney FastPass but for US Customs.

Here is the list of countries under the International Agreement:
